Congratulations, Dr. Lateefah brown
Hello everyone!
I AM SO ECSTATIC LATEEFAH! It’s almost like when young Simba was hit in the head by Rafiki and realized it was his time to return to pride rock (although there is not Scar!). I just say “It is time” in that wise, deep Rafiki voice. The future is bright and the bridge has been connected! I’m so excited for what the future holds. The torch was lit with Delnita and Brianna, and guided back to the past and successfully passed onward, calling those founders back. A critical step in that journey is YOU, the kind, brilliant and loving Lateefah. Congratulations!!!! Harmony Saunders |

HARMONY'S Adventure Begins
What Is A White Coat Ceremony?
Hi Dr. Martin and Mr. Martin,
Thank you so much for the videos! I feel like so much time has already passed so watching them has already been a treat and a wonderful piece of memorabilia. The past month has been full of so many things. We have finally started our real classes this week and it’s been great! Nothing new yet as far as content, just lots of it (as to be expected), but I suspect the 10 year journey to get here has made me more than academically prepared.
I’ve finally made a couple of friends. I’ve gotten into a groove of studying that’s comfortable and I’ve learned how to do a basic head to toe physical exam, ran through scenarios with standardized patients (they are basically actors) who portrayed difficult patients for us to practice (mine was suicidal, the other options included drug seeking, angry, chatty, and flirty) that session was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. |
After learning some basic clinical skills (the physical exam and taking a medical history), I am equipped to volunteer in our student-run free clinic.
Yesterday was my first day! It was amazing to go in and have my very own patient for the first time. The 3rd year medical student let the patient know that it was my first day and the patient was happy for me. They wrote me a note while waiting for the attending physician, and told me not to open it until they left. It was really cute and let me know that I’m in the right place and that I can do this. Yesterday was hard so it was good to know that I could go in the clinic and stand out amongst my peers doing the very thing we are training to do, which is connect with our patients and provide them with the best care. |
In my first day, I made a difference in someone’s life and it felt amazing.

I hope all is well with BSSO, SDSU and both of you! I believe school started this week at SDSU!? All is still going well with planning for the panel - I need to reach out to Sydney, have you heard from her? Is there an officer retreat planned?
I hope to hear from you both soon! Harmony Saunders |
